If your garage door is making annoying sounds, you may want to address the problem before it drives you crazy. Worry not! We have brought to you today some easy tips to make a quieter garage door.

Tighten the Nuts

All nuts on the door and track must be tightened. Make sure there are no loose screws but do not overtighten them.

Lubricate Moving Parts

• Springs: Use enough lubricant or oil to spray the top of the springs.
• Tracks: Apply lubricant inside of each track and around all the metal rollers.
• Chains: If you have a chain assembly, lubricate the chain.
• Hinges: Lubricate the hinges between all the panels.

Lubricate each metal part at least twice a year to reduce garage door noises.

Replace the Rollers

Old metal rollers usually can generate a lot of noise as they roll up and down the metal track. You may want to replace them to reduce the noise.

Consider replacing your steel rollers with nylon rollers. This is worth it mostly when you have a five-section garage door that requires a lot of rollers. Plus, they don’t have to be lubricated on a regular basis. They also cost less than their metal-based counterparts.

Replace the Hinges

If you notice a grating noise, it is a sign that you need to replace the hinges. Over time, daily use causes the hole in the hinge that houses the roller stem to become worn. The hinges that have a more oblong than round hole need to be replaced.
